“If California were an independent nation, we would have the 8th largest economy in the world. That’s why it is important that our state legislators have experience not only in government and business, but in world affairs that affect our trading partners. Our economy generates the businesses and jobs that pay for the mortgages, grocery bills and school clothes for every California family. I believe the leadership experience I have gained in local government, in the military, and in international trade and diplomacy negotiations have prepared me to help California grow its economy while addressing our growing government financial problems.”

— Palmer Kain

My name is Palmer Kain. I have been a proud member of the Monterey Bay community since I was 3 years old, when my parents moved me to Santa Cruz. As a young student at Monte Vista Christian I spent my free-time working to improve our community, and throughout my life that has not changed. After high school I joined the U.S. Army, where I was deployed overseas. After returning from the Army, I got my first job in local politics, as a policy maker for Mayor Rotkin, with some of my policy ideas continuing to benefit our community to this day.

I hold an AA from Cabrillo College, but due to the high cost of college in our nation, I was forced to continue my education at a leading university overseas, where I attained my BA in Government with specializations in international affairs and conflict resolution . It’s due to this experience, that I have created an 8-point education plan, that includes making the UC/CSU system affordable for all Californians.

During my studies I was able to pick the brains of world leaders, and even participate in active peace talks during real time. Since returning from school, I have taken my experiences and used them to build a coalition of citizens focused on bringing back the community model. Through the community model, of neighbor looking out for neighbor, we can solve some of our most pressing issues, including the lack of a quality education for California’s youth.

As someone who has dedicated his life to improving our community, I look forward to continuing that work as your next state Senator for the 17th district. Together we can rebuild our communities and create a brighter future for all Californians.
